This is a fantastic opportunity to shape the physical design of Rivian’s electric vehicle systems! We’re looking for a highly motivated, multi‑disciplined, CAD based mechanical design engineer to help us design and release Exterior Mechanisms & Glazing. You must combine strong analytical skills, creative problem‑solving abilities, and excellent communication to bring innovative and compliant Mechanisms & Glazing solutions to life in our vehicle product line.
You will serve as a key technical contact, facilitating communication among Studio, Engineering, Suppliers, and Procurement. Your role will involve cross‑functional collaboration to ensure seamless integration between various teams such as BIW, Body Controls, Software, Electrical, Exterior Trim & NVH teams.
- Design, develop and model mechanical and mechatronic systems including, but not limited to Side Mirrors, Wipers, Washer Systems, Charge port Doors, Glazings, and Tonneau Covers. This will include interacting with multiple interface functions including Studio, Quality, Manufacturing, Software Controls, and Vehicle Attributes.
- Use Catia V5/3D Experience to develop high quality 3D parametric data to enable faster turnaround to make changes.
- Develop, prototype and industrialize various mechanisms & actuators in the vehicle features.
- Have demonstrable knowledge of various manufacturing processes such as injection molding, high‑pressure die casting and the forming of glass.
- Develop high quality 2D drawings and LD files in conjunction with Internal Design Engineer’s and External Suppliers to enable high quality releases on time.
- Work with cross functional teams to develop high quality CAD that meets requirements of the system as a whole and respect clearance zones, sweep zones etc.
- Work with the studio team to provide feedback and generate high quality A‑surfaces that meet all DFM requirements while keeping with the theme of the vehicle.
- Come up with different CAD concepts for issues, detailed 2D sections and concept 3D CAD during initial development.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (Masters preferred)
- 2-3+ Years of experience developing Side Mirrors, Wipers, Washer Systems, Charge port Doors, Glazings, and various Automotive mechanisms systems
- Catia v5 / v6 operative skills, to be able to demonstrate high technical competence
- 2+ years of experience in Automotive Exteriors Mechanisms and/or Glazing from concept to production
- Proven supplier management skills based on working with a mix of build‑to‑print and full‑service suppliers
- Generation of 3D geometry & sectional data. (Key module utilization: Part design & Geometric Surface design)
- Compliance with company procedures & quality standards
- Involvement in process improvements
- Highly motivated with good logical reasoning. Strong numeracy & literacy with good organizational & communication skills
- A desire to strive for improvements to achieve high customer satisfaction
Salary Range Irvine-Based Applicants: $85,600-$107,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, and other factors permitted by law).
