Job Description:
Director, Global Backend Capacity Planning Position Summary
We are seeking a highly strategic and experienced Director of Global Capacity Planning to lead backend wafer processing, assembly and (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). planning across our global semiconductor manufacturing network. This pivotal role will oversee long-term and short-term capacity planning, balancing internal and external resources to optimize throughput, cost, flexibility, and time-to-market. In addition, this senior leadership role is responsible for ensuring that capacity is effectively aligned with demand forecasts, new product introductions, and technology roadmaps, while managing cost and operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in backend semiconductor operations, including OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) management, capacity modeling, scenario planning, and data-driven decision-making. This role requires cross-functional leadership, operational excellence, and a strong understanding of global supply chain dynamics.
Key Responsibilities- Strategic Capacity Planning:
Develop and execute global capacity strategies for backend operations (wafer processing, assembly, packaging, test), ensuring alignment with business forecasts, product ramps, and technology roadmaps. - Global Network Optimization:
Drive capacity allocation across internal sites and OSAT partners to optimize efficiency, service levels, and cost competitiveness while mitigating risk. - Forecasting & Scenario Modeling:
Build robust models for demand/supply balancing, scenario planning, and contingency strategies to support product ramps, customer demand shifts, and geopolitical or supply chain disruptions. - Capacity Models:
Design, build, and maintain robust capacity planning models to forecast resource (e.g., staffing, infrastructure, production), utilize advanced statistical analysis, simulation, and data modeling techniques to accurately predict resource requirements, collaborate with various departments to gather relevant data, validate assumptions, and ensure models accurately reflect business reality. - Data & Capacity Model Enhancements:
Evaluate existing capacity models for complexity and identify opportunities for simplification and streamlining, develop and implement strategies to reduce model complexity while maintaining accuracy and capturing essential insights, introduce automation and optimization techniques to improve model efficiency and reduce manual effort. - S&OP & LTF Facilitation:
Support monthly Sales and Operating Planning (S&OP) and quarterly Long-Term Forecast (LTF) cycles, gathering relevant data and preparing for meetings, facilitate discussions between BU, Sales, Operations, Finance, and other stakeholders during meetings to balance demand and supply, considering all relevant constraints, document assumptions, promotions, and adjustments to forecasts, ensuring alignment across departments, collaborate with teams to drive continuous improvement in S&OP/LTF processes, leveraging data and best practices. - OSAT & Internal Site Management:
Partner closely with OSAT vendors and internal sites to understand real-time capacity, cycle times, and bottlenecks; identify opportunities for debottlenecking and productivity improvements. - Cross-Functional Leadership:
Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Product Management, Supply Chain, and Finance to align capacity strategies with new product introductions (NPI), business goals, and investment plans. - Data & Systems Management:
Lead the implementation and optimization of capacity planning tools, data models, and reporting systems; ensure accuracy and consistency of critical data inputs and KPIs. - Investment & Capital Planning:
Provide inputs into Cap Ex planning for backend operations; support make-vs-buy analysis and strategic outsourcing decisions. - Risk Management & Business Continuity:
Assess global risks and develop contingency plans to ensure operational resilience across all AT operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, or related field;
Master’s or MBA preferred. - 10–15+ years of experience in the semiconductor industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role focused on backend operations, capacity planning, or supply chain strategy.
- Deep knowledge of backend AT processes (wirebond, flip-chip, WLCSP, final test, burn-in, etc.) and OSAT ecosystem.
- Proven experience managing global manufacturing or OSAT networks.
- Expertise in planning tools (e.g., Kinaxis, SAP IBP, Anaplan) and advanced Excel/data modeling.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills; able to work through ambiguity and complexity.
- Exceptional cross-functional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to lead and develop high-performing teams in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Direct experience with semiconductor test engineering, backend factory operations, or industrial engineering.
