Job DescriptionWSP USA is seeking a Lead Consultant, Ports and Marine Engineering to join our National Maritime Practice Group. This position can be based out of the following offices:
Irvine, San Francisco, San Diego, CA;
Miami, FL;
Portland, OR;
Seattle, WA;
Houston, TX;
Tampa, FL. The role provides engineering support and leadership across project development, design, construction, and inspection of ports, marine, and intermodal rail terminal projects.
- Lead engineering tasks, collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from site visits, surveys, reports, and drawings.
- Develop construction plans, schedules, specifications, and cost estimates for ports and marine projects.
- Manage cross‑functional teams executing mid‑level or multiple concurrent smaller projects, coordinating with engineers and multidisciplinary teams on federally and locally funded projects.
- Write technical reports and documentation using sketches, calculations, spreadsheets, and drawings.
- Lead staff engineers in applying higher‑order techniques, incorporating marine standards and mitigating risks.
- Provide high‑level technical assistance on computational and design tasks for fixed and floating marine structures, and structural components.
- Monitor budgets, staffing, and schedules.
- Prepare and deliver presentations to internal, external teams, and clients.
- Interact professionally with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients.
- Exercise responsible decision‑making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
- Complete all assigned trainings.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program; registered Professional Engineer licensure (multi‑state preferred).
- 7‑10 years of relevant experience with marine project‑specific design.
- Proficiency in SAP
2000 and/or equivalent finite‑element software; design and detailing of reinforced and prestressed concrete and steel per ACI, AISC, PCI, or AASHTO. - Experience with AutoCAD, REVIT, and other BIM tools.
- Construction experience in ports and marine projects.
- Management of multidisciplinary teams and coordination of design documentation.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and technical report writing skills.
- Self‑leadership, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize in a dynamic environment.
- Track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, and harassment policies.
- Occasional travel may be required, and flexible work schedules may be necessary.
- Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program with 10+ years of post‑education design experience in ports and marine structures.
- Proficiency with domestic and international marine terminal codes (e.g., MOTEMS, ASCE COPRI, PIANC, DoD UFC, UFGC).
- Experience with LSDYNA or other related engineering software.
- Active participation in professional practice organizations.
- Experience with marine, port, and coastal construction laws and compliance practices.
- Experience in field investigation or construction support for marine structures.
- Commercial diver license (ADCI or DCBC) is an added advantage.

CompensationExpected Salary (all locations): $90,000 – $140,000
