Position Summary

The Youth Education Events & Programs Intern will gain valuable career experience in educational STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) program and event development under the mentorship of GSOC Girl Experience & Program staff. Intern duties include program curriculum review and development, event support, facilitation with girls K‑12, working within an approved STEM budget, and additional administrative tasks to gain a better understanding of programming, events, and the non‑profit field.

This position also includes administrative tasks and other projects that support academic learning and GSOC objectives.

Essential Responsibilities / Activities
  • Support Makerspace with event support and programming, including educational program development for new tools and activities, Maker Nights event support, direct program facilitation, and other Makerspace administrative needs (20%).
  • Communicate with Program Providers and volunteers to deliver STEM programs, support STEM events through administrative tasks and day‑of execution, promote, deliver, and evaluate STEM programs (30%).
  • Support a team of volunteers dedicated to STEM advancements for Girl Scouts by attending meetings, providing event support, and managing day‑of events (25%).
  • Support all Girl Experience, Membership Experience, Volunteer Experience, Community Programs, Marcom, Fund Development, etc. departments' processes, projects, grants, and events through collaboration with GSOC team members (10%).
  • Additional needs for development of new STEM programs and events such as administrative duties, budget tracking, and organizational tasks (10%).
  • Other duties designed to support academic goals of the internship program (5%).
Qualifications
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
  • Proven self‑directed ability and strong teamwork.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Flexible, enthusiastic, and highly motivated.
  • Adaptable to a quickly moving environment.
  • Experience working with youth.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Organized with time‑management and prioritization skills.
  • Currently enrolled in a college or university, pursuing a degree in Education, Child Development, Social Work, a STEM field with a passion for working with students, or another relevant field.
  • Licensed and insured California driver; must pass background screening including fingerprinting and driving.
  • Willingness to accept the beliefs and principles of the Girl Scout Movement.
