Position Description

The University of California, Irvine School of Law is generating an applicant pool of qualified clinical lecturers to teach in our Juris Doctor Clinical Law Program. We will consider applications for lecturers to join existing clinics based on needs in individual clinical courses and applicants' specialized expertise.

General Duties: In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include holding office hours, client representation, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus, handouts, exercises, exams and other assessment tools), attending departmental meetings, and maintaining a course website. Qualifications Basic qualifications
  • J.D. degree, or in limited circumstances an equivalent international degree.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with clinical legal education.
  • Excellent research, writing, and lawyering skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Career intention to practice in public interest, public sector, or clinical education setting.
  • Experience working within marginalized and subordinated communities, alongside clients and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop and manage client matters, cases, projects and transactions independently.
  • Experience supervising students, junior associates, paralegals, or law clerks.
  • Excellent student evaluations as primary instructor of a law course at an accredited university.
  • Expertise in one or more substantive areas of the specific clinic seeking a lecturer.
Membership
  • In good standing of the California Bar (by start date).
Term Schedule
  • Fall 2026 Semester:
    July 1, 2026 - December 31, 2026.
  • Spring 2027 Semester:
    January 1, 2027 - June 30, 2027.

Percent Time: Generally part-time 11%-33%. All grading obligations must be completed in a timely manner.
