The Estimator coordinates and participates in the preparation of all estimates, manages estimating functions during preconstruction including value engineering, alternative and comparative studies, and reports directly to the Preconstruction Executive. This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Core Responsibilities- Project Oversight:
Coordinate, direct, and follow‑up with the project team to ensure the timely completion of tasks associated with assigned projects and provide comprehensive oversight of each section. - Subcontractor Outreach:
Identify trades, advertise projects to subcontractors, and continually follow‑up via phone, email, etc. - Bid Packages:
Create instructions for bidders, set up templates (scope sheet, estimate templates), and complete all required paperwork for bids or proposals (bid forms, bonding requirements). - Bid Analysis:
Perform quantity takeoffs, identify and mitigate project‑related risk, review and verify scope of work and pricing of other project team members, use accepted templates for estimates, clarifications, bid analysis, calculation of alternates, and other tasks, and present scope, costs, risks, and opportunities to management during final review. - Estimates:
Accurately estimate the cost of the work described in the project documents based on subcontractor bids and develop lists of clarifications, assumptions, and exclusions. - Bid Submission:
Collaborate to determine who should submit the bid and how, submit bids as appropriate, and collaborate with Marketing to prepare bid deliverables when needed. - Post Bid / Interview:
Participate in the presentation of proposals, budgets, etc. to clients, coordinate delivery of project files to Operations Staff during handoff meetings, coordinate the buyout process with operations, and create professional reports and correspondence.

Remain open to new ways, adopt new structures and technology, develop new approaches, and encourage others to value change.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Construction Management) or technical training, or a combination of education and work experience.
- 5-7 years of estimating or related experience, or 10+ years without a degree.
- Advanced skill level with On‑Center Software On‑Screen‑Take‑off.
- Intermediate understanding of Windows OS.
- Advanced skill level with MS Excel.
- Intermediate skill level with MS Word, Outlook/Exchange.
- Intermediate skill level with Procore Project Management software.
Requires occasional climbing of stairs, hoists, ladders; lifting up to 50 lb; close, peripheral, and depth vision; use of hands, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
Work EnvironmentMay regularly work on site where employees are exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather, and risk of electrical shock. Noise is usually moderate to very loud.
