The Revenue Accountant is responsible for monitoring and validating tenant revenue across a commercial real estate portfolio. This role ensures that rent and other lease-related charges are accurately billed, received, and reconciled with bank deposits and tenant ledgers.
The position serves as a key control point between property management, accounting, and asset management to ensure lease revenue is properly recorded, discrepancies are resolved promptly, and tenant receivables are accurately tracked.
Key Responsibilities- Verify tenant billing in accordance with lease terms, including base rent, CAM, taxes, insurance, and other recoveries.
- Review scheduled rent increases, CPI adjustments, and percentage rent reporting.
- Ensure lease abstractions and billing setups are accurately reflected in the accounting system.
- Reconcile tenant payments received via ACH, wire, lockbox, and checks.
- Match bank deposits to tenant receipts and accounting system entries.
- Investigate and resolve unidentified or misapplied deposits.
- Maintain tenant ledgers and ensure payments are applied accurately.
- Prepare AR aging reports and monitor delinquent accounts.
- Coordinate with property management on tenant payment follow-up.
- Monitor tenant revenue activity and identify discrepancies or irregularities.
- Maintain documentation supporting tenant billing and payment reconciliation.
- Ensure compliance with internal accounting policies and audit requirements.
- Assist with monthly close by validating revenue activity and resolving tenant ledger issues.
- Support CAM reconciliation and tenant billing adjustments.
- Provide revenue-related reporting to accounting and asset management teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- 2–5 years of accounting, accounts receivable, or revenue accounting experience.
- Commercial real estate or multi-tenant billing experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and revenue reconciliation.
- Experience with property accounting software (MRI, Yardi, or similar).
- Strong Excel and data reconciliation skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies.
- Strong communication skills for coordination with internal teams.
