Senior Project Accountant Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of direct property/project accounting experience required
- Strong proficiency in Yardi software preferred
- Exposure to fund accounting or private equity funds a plus
- Strong computer skills, proficient in Excel, uploads, familiarity with accounting automation tools a plus
- Highly detailed‑oriented with a focus on accuracy and strong analytical skills
- Self‑starter with the ability to work independently and anticipate project needs
- Strong organizational skills, able to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to prioritize tasks and deliver results under tight deadlines
- Systems‑savvy, interested in optimizing and automating processes, with a drive for continuous improvement
- Prepare cash reconciliations; set up and maintain funding source budgets for draws (equity and construction loans); prepare draws for all wholly owned projects.
- Maintain CIP sub‑ledger and record all draws and distributions to and from project in a timely manner; work closely with contracts administrator for contract input; proactively manage project costs, including maintaining accounts payable and reviewing job cost reports to revise budgets appropriately.
- Own month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end process, including preparing recurring month‑end/quarter‑end journal entries; recording all operational entries during/after stabilization; preparing reconciliations of accounts; maintaining depreciation and amortization schedules; recording all draws and pay downs on construction loan and reconciling loan and interest payments on a monthly basis; maintaining interest accruals and amortization of fees related to project construction loans.
- Prepare detailed financial reports including balance sheets, operating statements, cash flows and other reports as needed per project with minimal supervision; assist in year‑end audits; assist with joint venture reporting: collect and review joint venture financials; prepare trial balances for uploads into Yardi; run quarterly preferred return/waterfall schedules for all projects; run quarterly capital balance reports for all projects.
- Take on ad‑hoc assignments to support the accounting team’s evolving needs.
