Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at an acute care, Level 4 trauma facility, requiring at least 1 year of MS/MS-Tele experience and night shift availability.

Details
  • Acute care hospital setting with a 24-bed inpatient Med/Surg Telemetry unit that also accommodates up to 10 observation and day surgery patients
  • Common diagnoses include NHP, cellulitis, UTI, COPD, GU disorders, pacemaker, sepsis, nursing home placements, and day surgical cases such as orthopedic (hips and knees), cholecystectomies, appendectomies, and TURP-CBI
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are 5:1 on day shift and 6:1 at 11pm; team nursing with LPNs operates at a 2:7 ratio
  • Telemetry monitoring is reviewed daily in the ICU; basic arrhythmia knowledge required as a physical monitor is located at the nurses' station
  • RNs are not required to titrate drips
  • Charge nurses carry a patient assignment; travelers may be placed as relief charge nurse
  • Nursing aides are present on the unit
  • Hospitalist available on-site until 6pm daily, then via telemedicine; RT is available 24/7 and oversees the entire hospital
  • CPAP is among the RT equipment used on-site
  • 12-hour night shifts (7pm–7am)
  • Rotating weekends required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, every other weekend)
  • On-call or standby opportunities may be assigned
  • Floating to like units and patients is required
  • EMR is Cerner, currently transitioning to Epic
  • 13-week assignment
Requirements
  • Active MI RN license required by start date
  • BLS certification (AHA) required; ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg or Med/Surg Telemetry (acute care) experience required
  • Experience with TURP-CBI procedures preferred
  • Critical Access Hospital or Trauma Level 3 or 4 experience preferred
  • Must be proficient with IV starts, as no IV team is on-site
  • Basic telemetry arrhythmia interpretation skills required
  • 2 professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years of relevant experience
Additional Information
  • Orientation consists of an 8-hour computer education day followed by 4 hours of shadowing, a 12-hour orientation shift, and then independent practice on day 3
  • Self-scheduling is accommodated when possible; longer blocks of shifts (e.g., 6 consecutive) are preferred for scheduling purposes
  • Holiday coverage required for 2 out of 3 designated holidays
  • Solid professional scrubs required; no specific color requirement
  • Candidates who have previously worked for this health system must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration
  • Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and are eligible to apply
  • Small pediatric population is present on the unit but travelers are generally not assigned pediatric patients unless they have prior pediatric experience or no other option is available
