Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position in a Level IV trauma center requiring a MI RN license and current ACLS, BLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications.

Responsibilities

• Position is in the Acute Emergency Department (ER) of a Level IV trauma center

• The unit has 14 beds, including 2 trauma bays and 3 fast track rooms

• Average ER census is 40–60 patients daily with a variable mix of trauma, STEMI, stroke, accident, and medical cases

• Nurse-patient ratio is 1:3–4 during the day and higher at night; after 3 am, coverage is by 2 RNs until 7 am

• Shift lengths are 12 hours with start times of 3pm or 7pm, including evening and night shifts

• Weekend coverage is required every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)

• Holiday coverage involves at least 2 out of 3 winter holidays, otherwise every other holiday during the contract

• Floating may be required to inpatient units for assisting as needed

• The unit uses an EMR system not listed; may be transitioning to Epic in the future

• Orientation includes computer-based training plus 2 days of department-specific floor orientation

• Responsibilities include triage, primary ER patient care, and participation in care for traumas, medical emergencies, and variable acute conditions

• Travelers may be assigned triage after orientation to facility protocols

• Team support includes 24/7 huck coverage, CNAs, medics, LPNs, and respiratory therapy support

• Security is provided by local police and maintenance staff; no 24/7 in-house dedicated security

• Scrub attire must be any solid color, clean, and professional

• First-time travelers are accepted for this role

• Local candidates within 80 miles are accepted but with a reduced pay rate

Requirements

• Active MI RN license required by the assignment start date

• Minimum of 2 years recent Emergency Department RN experience

• Current and valid certifications required: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), TNCC

• Candidates must provide two professional references: one supervisor and one peer or supervisor

• Previous permanent staff must have not worked at the facility within the past 6 months and require hospital approval for rehire
