Position: Residential Counselor at SLP I, Part-Time

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: Starting at $20.00 per hour

Shift: Full-Time (less than 30 hours per week)

Reports To: Residential Manager

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

ASNM is seeking a 2nd Shift Part-Time Residential Counselor for our SLP I Program. We are a private residential provider for adults with developmental disabilities. Position Responsibilities
- Essential
  • Provides one-on-one direct care to a resident with cerebral palsy
  • Respects and protects the legal and personal rights of all residents who requires assistance with all activities of daily living.
  • Safeguards the confidentiality of residents' medical and personal information.
  • Is knowledgeable and adheres to house policies and procedures.
  • Attends scheduled staff meetings, in-service training courses, and other meetings as appropriate.
  • Observes residents and reports any physical and behavioral irregularities/changes to the Residential Manager.
  • Ensures all residents are always accounted for and completes accountability log during shift as needed.
  • Fills out all necessary forms for making written reports such as shift reports including SCOMM, T-Logs, and GERs in Therap.
  • Promotes a safe environment for residents by keeping the rooms, floors, and hallways in the house free from trash and unnecessary items.
  • Conducts, participates in, and documents required fire drills, tornado drills, group sessions, etc.
  • Assists residents in areas of self-help skills, hygiene, grooming, dressing, eating, safety, appropriate social behavior, cleaning, laundry, etc. This includes, but is not limited to bathing, dressing (choosing appropriate seasonal clothing), washing and combing hair, shaving, brushing teeth, using deodorant, and ensuring proper fit of clothing. When residents are unable to perform tasks, assist or complete them as necessary.
  • Ensures laundry is washed, dried, and folded during shift.
  • Cooks and sets up meals and cleans up.
  • Performs assigned cleaning duties (see shift checklist).
  • Supervises residents in all activities and assists them in improving their life skills by training them to be as independent as possible.
  • Supervises and transports residents to/from activities, appointments, and church following safety rules as a driver.
  • Encourages participation of each resident in different and new activities.
  • Reports needed house repairs, lost or broken equipment, and needed supplies to the Residential Manager (create work order).
  • Reports all problems with security, vandalism, or theft to the Residential Manager immediately.
  • Documents resident care activities and reports all unusual conditions to the Residential Manager. This includes T-Logs and GERs as needed for individual residents.
  • Reports all incidents, accidents, and medication errors immediately to the Residential Manager. (GER report and/or hand-written note)
  • Reports all abuse, suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation to the Residential Manager immediately.
  • Gives medication in accordance with M.D. orders and documents administration of medications in MARs.
  • Participates in resident care plans as necessary. Completes and records data on training objectives as required.
  • Is loyal and supportive of the house, its policies, and management decisions.
  • Displays a helpful, supportive attitude toward co-workers.
  • Is gracious and cordial to all visitors.
  • Maintains current CPR certification and other certifications as needed.
  • Maintains a current South Carolina Driver's License in good standing.
  • Interacts tactfully and professionally with residents, families, and co-workers.
  • Participates in State Surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies.
  • Files paperwork into proper folders.
  • Maintains time sheets daily.
  • Completes the appropriate paperwork to request Paid Time Off (PTO).
  • Arrives promptly for work shifts as assigned.
  • Seeks work when assignments are completed.
  • Completes tasks as assigned by Residential Manager/Administrator as needed.
Essential Skills and Experience
  • High School Diploma, GED, or its equivalent
  • Current South Carolina Driver's License
  • General knowledge of basic math
  • Basic computer skills
  • Med Tech certification
  • Crisis Prevention certification
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification
  • Defensive Driving certification
Beneficial Skills and Experience
  • Prior experience working with people with different needs such as: autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, and head and spinal cord injuries
  • Prior experience working with individuals with severe Cerebral Palsy with impaired speech
  • Experience as a care provider in a DDSN/OIDD licensed residential setting
