Duties
Both roles are responsible for the planning, development, and delivery of high-quality, applied geoscience projects throughout Nunavut. They use the scientific results from these projects to provide advice on responsible mineral resource exploration and development and land use planning to the Nunavut government and the government of Canada, academia, industry, community representatives, national and international clients and partners and other stakeholders.

They prepare and deliver a variety of maps, presentations and reports about geoscience and natural resource potential in Nunavut for government publications, scientific journals, and conferences, and communicate the results of their work to Nunavummiut through community engagement. Difference in positions:
Stream 1 - The Surficial Geologist position primarily includes field work throughout Nunavut, to better understand its surficial and Quaternary geology.
Stream 2 - The Economic Geologist position helps better understand Nunavut’s metallic and non-metallic mineral endowment and economic mineral potential.🚩 Important Notice:
Applicants should be aware that the position they are applying for may potentially transfer from the Government of Canada to the Government of Nunavut on April 1, 2027. This transfer will take place as part of the Nunavut Lands and Resources Devolution Agreement which will provide Nunavut with greater governance responsibilities and fulfill a longstanding commitment to self-determination. While the details of the transfer of positions are still being finalized, we want to ensure transparency and provide candidates with this crucial information.
