Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician - Bluebird Lodge

East Suffolk and North Essex Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) are looking for a talented and motivated Multi‑Skilled Maintenance Technician with a Mechanical bias to join the Mechanical Engineering Team at the Bluebird Lodge site.

This role will focus on the service and maintenance of Air Hand‑Handling Units across the site and provide high quality service in the repair, maintenance or installation of all plant, equipment, systems and building structure/fabric associated with all ESNEFT properties.

The duties include Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), testing and calibration, fault finding, emergency response, defect correction and new works.

Main duties of the job

• Completed a recognised trade apprenticeship and hold a Level 3 vocational qualification or equivalent, plus relevant training or equivalent experience, and additional training for a specialist area (e.g. air conditioning).

• Completed recognised BTEC Hospital Competent Persons accredited courses and be appointed in writing for work on specialist healthcare systems as required.

• Undertake mandatory and statutory training according to Trust policy and as identified in the Trust appraisal process.

• Accept and utilise any other training and development offered to carry out duties and achieve a high‑quality service. The post holder will work appropriate to core skills around building and engineering plant and equipment maintenance and will be progressively trained to acquire multi‑trade flexibility.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Completed a recognised trade apprenticeship and hold a BTEC/HNC/Diploma in Building or Engineering or equivalent City & Guilds qualification with intermediate practical and theoretical knowledge plus significant equivalent experience in specialist field.
  • Accredited HTM Competent Person Course.
  • Infection Control Awareness Training.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Demonstrate suitable post‑apprenticeship experience in non‑routine maintenance of complex engineering plant and equipment with a broad understanding of other trade disciplines.
  • Experience liaising with and supervising building and engineering contractors.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently in difficult environments and under pressure, assess situations rapidly and make accurate relevant decisions.
  • Previous hospital maintenance experience with exposure to all building and engineering aspects.
  • Knowledge of statutory legislation and relevant Codes of Practice.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety Policy and Safe Working Procedures.
  • Fire Training.
