Automotive Technician, Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Overview
Harwich, Essex – Up to £50k per annum. Full Time. The RAC is seeking a Mobile Mechanic in the Service, Maintenance and Repair division. You’ll bring expert vehicle maintenance and diagnostic skills directly to our customers, wherever they are, delivering first-class service without the constraints of a traditional garage. You’ll be equipped from day one with your own RAC van, fuel card, full uniform, essential tools, and diagnostic kit.
Responsibilities- Provide automotive maintenance, diagnostics and repairs on a range of light vehicles for customers at driveways, office car parks, and other locations.
- Engage with customers professionally, explain services, and represent the RAC with pride.
- Manage stock, complete reporting, and maintain ongoing customer communication.
- Think on your feet to determine the right course of action for each customer and scenario.
- Operate with a focus on quality, safety, and customer satisfaction in every interaction.
- Work 40 hours per week with core hours 8:30am–5:00pm and one in four Saturdays.
- Level 2 light vehicle maintenance qualification (or equivalent).
- At least 3 years’ hands-on experience as a vehicle technician with a range of light vehicles.
- A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.
- A competitive base salary of £38,625, with on-target earnings of up to £50,000.
- Guaranteed overtime option to increase base salary up to £44,385, with additional overtime and bonus opportunities.
- 40 hours per week, with core hours 8:30am–5pm, and 1 in 4 Saturdays.
- Opt-in Guaranteed Overtime after the first month (rest days at £30 per hour with potential earnings).
- Tools and resources provided, including a RAC van, fuel card, full uniform, essential tools, and diagnostic kit.
