Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Trailer Fitter – Spider is advertising on behalf of our client who are recruiting for a newly created Trailer Fitter position as part of their ongoing business growth strategy. This permanent opportunity is based in Raydon, Suffolk and offers an excellent opportunity for experienced Trailer Technicians looking to move away from quay‑side environments or 24/7 roadside support work.

The purpose of the Trailer Fitter role is to maintain, service and repair HGV trailers to ensure the fleet remains safe, roadworthy and fully compliant with DVSA standards, minimising downtime and supporting on‑time deliveries to customers.
Working hours are 42.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexible start and finish times to suit operational demand (e.g. 06:00 – 15:30 or 08:00 – 17:30 with a 1‑hour unpaid break). Overtime is available with up to two Saturdays per month required depending on workload.
Responsibilities include:
- Carry out routine PMI/6‑weekly inspections, safety checks and scheduled servicing to manufacturer and DVSA standards
- Diagnose and repair braking systems, suspension, running gear, lighting, electrics, bodywork, coupling systems and tail lifts
- Complete accurate job cards and maintenance records using Fleet Check fleet management software
- Identify required parts, liaise with suppliers, and maintain workshop tools and equipment
- Service and repair mobile plant including telehandlers, forklifts, Moffetts and skid steers
- Work safely in line with company H&S procedures, RAMS and PUWER/LOLER regulations
- Provide occasional roadside breakdown support when required
- Contribute to continuous improvement and fault analysis to improve fleet reliability
- Present vehicles for MOT where an HGV Class 1 licence is held
As a Trailer Fitter
, you will have proven experience as a Trailer or HGV Technician with strong trailer systems knowledge and hold an IRTEC qualification
. You will have mechanical experience to service and repair mobile plant and a good understanding of air brakes/EBS, suspension, electrics and trailer components. Welding and fabrication (MIG) experience would be advantageous.
A full UK driving licence is required (HGV C+E desirable), along with being authorised to work in the UK. You will be reliable, flexible and a strong team player with good communication skills and a positive “can‑do” attitude. Candidates must be free from asthma or respiratory conditions due to the workshop environment. Personal hand tools are required, with major equipment and PPE provided.
