About The Role

Balfour Beatty is seeking a Site Engineer (Cabling) to join our Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team, working on the BTNO project based in Assington, Suffolk. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the successful delivery of a major power infrastructure project, working closely with the Project Manager / Project Director and the wider project team.

Role Purpose

You will have accountability for the safe, sustainable, and right‑first‑time delivery of cabling works, supporting the project through all phases including planning, design, delivery, monitoring, commissioning, and handover/close‑out.

What you'll be doing
  • Attend periodic project reviews / project meetings
  • Maintain accurate project records (progress, daily diaries etc.)
  • Prepare both internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders
  • Help ensure reports provide relevant information to enable informed, cost‑effective decisions in line with overall strategy
  • Help ensure scope and package assignment supports the team in coordinated working
  • Specify, understand and implement technical information and drawings into delivery
  • Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm & keep up to date with changes in legislation
  • Responsible for the safety and welfare of the general public, employees and supply chain
  • Support periodic Safety & Environmental Tours / promote observation and safety initiatives
  • Monitor effectiveness of the H&S Management System and suggest improvement solutions
  • Write and understand RAMS
  • Identify, raise and report risks and hazards
  • Support incident and H&S responses
  • Understand, control and issue safety documentation
  • Complete audits
  • Set people to work
  • Log and escale any issues that cannot be resolved at delegated level of authority
  • Manage subcontractors, including monitoring of contractor attendance and progress, providing direct instruction and support as necessary, such that contractual arrangements are achieved
  • Help ensure procurement plans are available in line with the overall project plans, such that material/resources/supply chain can be delivered to meet scheduled deadlines
  • Follow targets/KPIs in line with project objectives and monitor performance
  • Help ensure assurance activities (audits) are undertaken and take appropriate action on findings
  • Contribute towards workshops that cover the principles of continuous improvement
  • Help develop, implement and periodically update resource‑loaded schedules
  • Ensure team adopts productivity and project controls techniques
  • Monitor progress and implement Short Interval Control processes / hold weekly meetings
  • Ensure production of operational milestones reflect master schedule and customer expectations
  • Coordinate with other project activities and internal functions
  • Awareness of cost / budget
  • Awareness of commercial impact
  • Escalate commercial change
  • Request plant and materials
  • Maintain Digital Group Minimum Standards and operate with appropriate level of digital tools
  • Ensure the team has the correct level of digital training
Who We're Looking For
  • Experience in implementing safe systems of work
  • Experience in managing risks and change processes
  • Good understanding of the standard forms of contracts
  • Proficient in commercial / project management communications
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and written with all levels of the organisation
  • Good interpersonal skills that enable working relationships to be developed at all levels across the business and be able to negotiate and influence
  • Able to undertake work in high‑pressure situations with a flexible attitude

The Candidate Is Likely To Have The Following
  • Holds or is working towards a formal qualification in construction/engineering or equivalent industry experience
  • Holds CSCS and SSSTS or equivalent
