The Maintenance and Contracts service spends circa £25 million annually repairing, maintaining and improving a retained housing stock of circa 8000 properties and 15 sheltered schemes to our local “Ipswich Standard”.
The Council takes a holistic approach to stock management and has one seamless service that is now responsible for everything in connection with the asset management of that stock; from initial design to completing works on site on a right first-time basis using our own directly employed trade teams.
Housing is a flagship service of Ipswich Borough Council, and it is a service that is vital for our tenants and very much in the public eye - as you would expect with such a range of work. We benefit from working from a brand new environmentally friendly modern depot facility at Layard House.
This is an exciting opportunity for experienced building surveyors to join a dynamic and expanding team of professionals. As part of our growth strategy, we are investing in people, technology, and innovative approaches to asset management and building surveying.

We are looking for two Senior Building Surveyors/Managers who will oversee all activities and aspects of the Building Surveying Service by managing and supporting a small team of Building Surveyors which requires site and an office‑based presence.
Responsibilities- Acting as one of the Senior Building Surveying Managers being accountable for the delivery of various work streams and managing a small team of surveyors
- Acting as a Senior Building Surveyor undertaking Building Surveying work
- Ensuring all performance and service targets are met within the Building Surveying Service and developing staff to their full potential
- Ensuring all activity is completed to the standards expected. Examples of
- Surveying work includes surveying housing defects, managing damp and mould in line with Awaab’s Law, party wall agreements, tenant own improvements, disrepair claims, boundary wall disputes, energy performance certificates, improvements and planned surveys, designing and specifying works, project managing work, feasibility studies, stock condition, managing an adaptations service (list not exhaustive)
- Showing leadership and being passionate to provide the best possible service to our tenants at all times.
- a degree qualification and/or membership of a relevant professional organisation
- a high level of relevant, qualitative experience operating at a senior level in building surveying.
- detailed knowledge of Building Surveying and Building Regulations.
