Pay Rate: $12.00/hr
Essential Functions- Serve as a role model to members and Y staff and live the mission, vision and values of the YMCA movement.
- Ensure safety of all participants by following aquatics best practices.
- Adhere to and enforce aquatic rules and procedures consistently and fairly.
- Maintain constant surveillance of water and pool deck areas, using the 10-10 rule.
- Wear rescue fanny pack and rescue tube at all times while on duty.
- Maintain cleanliness of pool area when not performing primary duties.
- Accurately record and submit incident reports as required.
- Participate in and solicit others to participate in necessary YMCA financial development efforts, specifically the Annual Campaign.
- Maintain certifications listed under Certificates and Other Requirements.
- Adherence to all policies and procedures of the YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley.
- Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations including knowledge of emergency procedures and location of emergency equipment.
- Regular and timely adherence to respective schedule/meetings.
- All other duties as assigned by the Program Director - Aquatics.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Prior lifeguard experience preferred.
- Lifeguard Certification with CPR/AED/FA for the Professional Rescuer from YMCA, American Red Cross, or other nationally approved organization.
- Must be able to pass background check
The employee is frequently required to sit, kneel, stand, stoop, reach and manipulate objects; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate lifesaving equipment. The position requires mobility attentive to visual and audible cues for recognition and identification of swimmers in distress or in process of unsafe behaviors. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, use of both eyes, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades;
depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus. The position requires proficient swimming ability and the proper application of rescue and first-aid techniques. Must have the ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally and to extract individuals from the pool to the deck as needed in rescues. The employee is regularly required to communicate orally and in writing;
observe and interpret people and situations; analyze and solve problems; perform multiple tasks with interruptions; interact with members and participants and handle distressed or abusive individuals.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to pools, wet and humid conditions, and chemicals. The position is located in a fitness facility and may involve moving mechanical parts of fitness equipment. The noise level can vary from quiet to loud depending on programming.
