We're seeking a Psychiatrist to join our compassionate, multidisciplinary treatment team at Clarinda Correctional facility (CCF) in Clarinda, Iowa who is comfortable working in a dynamic, secure environment where every day brings new challenges and rewards. Upon classification at Iowa Medical and Classification Center (IMCC) in Coralville, the incarcerated individuals are sent to the appropriate facilities. CCF was established in 1980 as a medium security facility that houses male Incarcerated Individuals (II) who are struggling with various mental health conditions, who are intellectually disabled, sex offenders, or have other social problems.

It also protects II's who are especially at risk of victimization by other II's. In this unique and meaningful role, you will provide high-quality and evidence based Psychiatric services to an underserved population with complex needs, including extensive history of trauma and substance use disorders. This Provider will work in an environment that values collaboration, professional growth, and human connection- where your expertise truly makes a difference.

This is a full-time (40 hours per week) position where the Psychiatrist will provide clinical services within CCF, collaborating closely with a supportive healthcare team committed to promoting recovery, reducing recidivism, and ensuring continuity of care.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and medication management for individuals with mental health conditions and co-occurring substance use disorders and history of trauma.

Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans in coordination with psychologists, social workers, nursing staff, and Security personnel.

Provide ongoing psychopharmacologic treatment and crisis intervention as clinically indicated.

Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and case consultations.

Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).

Offer clinical leadership and consultation to nursing and mental health staff on psychiatric care and medication management.

Ensure continuity of care during transitions, including intake, intra-facility transfers, and reentry planning.

Evaluate, prepare, and participate in civil commitment proceedings for patients with severe mental illness who require Involuntary treatment or hospitalization due to risk of harm to self or others; or inability to take care for themselves.

Adhere to Department of Corrections policies, professional standards, and applicable state and federal regulations.

Schedule and Compensation

Graduation from an accredited school of medicine, completion of an internship program and licensure as a physician by the State of Iowa.
