Community Employment Specialist
This is a full‑time, 40‑hour per week position. The Community Employment – Job Coach reports directly to the Community Employment Team Leader.
Responsibilities- Provide direct training and support to individuals on community job sites.
- Implement goals and objectives and employ instructional methods consistent with each individual’s training plan.
- Document individual performance daily; keep charts and daily reports up to date and accurate; submit data to supervisor as requested.
- Attend and participate in all staff meetings.
- Assist with transportation to and from job sites at the start of each placement, if requested.
- Learn jobs at community sites to train individuals and be available to provide support and follow‑up as needed.
- Communicate with supervisor regarding the development of behavior‑intervention data.
- Integrate the individual with co‑workers; model appropriate interactions for others.
- Assist employers in resolving employment problems and encourage direct interaction with the individual whenever possible.
- Work with employers to complete regular performance evaluations with the individual.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Executive Director within the specified time frame.
- Advocate for employment with employers, co‑workers, and customers.
- Provide job coaching at community work sites and follow‑up support.
- Assist with securing transportation to job sites.
- Give written documentation as required.
- Represent the agency in the community.
- Cater to the needs of individuals who may display aggressive outbursts; intervene physically if necessary.
- Maintain physical ability to perform job‑coaching tasks across varied environments.
- Travel to various community job sites as required.
- Learn and teach a variety of tasks to persons with disabilities.
- Comply with HIPAA regulations and maintain appropriate security clearance levels for PHI access.
- Become certified in Job Coaching within six months of employment.
- High School Diploma or GED; post‑secondary education in a human services field preferred.
- Minimum six months’ experience in direct support capacity.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and early mornings.
- Valid Iowa Chauffeur’s license with a clean driving record; maintain license per agency insurance requirements.
- Adaptability to changing work conditions.
- Proficiency in job‑training methods such as cues, behavior reinforcement, and prompting techniques.
- Strong assessment and record‑keeping skills for job performance.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for social and professional interaction.
- Professional image and attitude that reflects positively on the agency.
- Must not be a carrier of a serious communicable disease (e.g., tuberculosis) that cannot be mitigated through accommodation.
- Physical ability to perform and teach tasks to individuals with disabilities.
- Experience working in diverse settings such as industry, fast food, hospitals, restaurants, and retail.
- No criminal convictions for assault, abuse, or bodily injury.
- Sound judgment for immediate decision‑making when required.
- Pass a physical examination before employment and every four years thereafter.
- Complete a ten‑hour medication‑management class.
