Job Description
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Civil Commitment Unit for Sex Offenders (CCUSO) is seeking a Part-time Psychiatric Security Specialist to join our team. This position offers strong opportunities for advancement, growth, and development.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct‑care services of both a security and treatment nature at CCUSO.
- Assist mental health staff and perform a range of security functions in creating a maximally therapeutic environment for individuals with mental abnormalities and/or personality disorders who were convicted of a sex offense.
- Supervise various patient activities, facilitate psycho‑educational group activities, document patient behaviors, operate the master control center, conduct basic physiological assessments (e.g., taking blood pressure), administer basic first aid, supervise patients on medical trips outside of the facility, maintain strict confidentiality, and calmly deescalate patients as needed.
- Supervise approximately 120 residents, work 20‑24 hours per week, and provide coverage to various treatment activities throughout assigned shifts.
- Provide back‑up for full‑time staff to ensure adequate protection for the safety and security of the institution.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
