PurposeThe purpose of this class is to install, test, troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices and related equipment in a water and sewer utility environment; and to routinely perform preventative maintenance on all equipment and components in order to ensure the continued safe, efficient and effective operations of all equipment and fixtures utilized by the organization.
Duties Essential Job Functions- Installs, tests, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices and equipment for both new and rework projects as well as for ongoing maintenance.
- Reads and interprets drawings, blueprints, electrical code specifications and schematics in order to effectively troubleshoot, maintain and repair equipment.
- Diagnoses, locates the cause of, and repairs malfunctioning systems and components using test equipment.
- Replaces level controls, float switches, pumps and pump motors.
- Troubleshoots pump station electrical controls.
- Performs preventative maintenance through inspection of electrical systems, equipment and components.
- Maintains accurate and up‑to‑date maintenance records.
- Tests electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures.
- Performs duties in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, contracts, permits, and standards of quality and safety.
- Works on other electrical projects as required.
- Performs unsupervised emergency repairs and services including general electrical and plant failures.
- Is subject to 24‑hour on‑call status as assigned.
- Installs, maintains and operates Supervisor Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) operating system.
- Repairs control panels, starters, float switches, pumps, aerators, chlorine equipment, etc.; ensures the maintenance of consistent system performance levels at set standards.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.

QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED supplemented by education in electrical maintenance and repair, industrial technology or a closely related field.
Requires at least six (6) years of related work experience.
Special Certifications And LicensesMust possess a valid state driver's license.
Electrician certification preferred.
Additional RequirementsWork is performed in an environment with heavy equipment and machinery that could result in bodily harm to co‑workers or others.

Position Type and Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full‑time position; typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but employees must be available during the “core” work hours of 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full‑time status. Must be available to work holidays and weekends during emergencies.
This is a safety‑sensitive position and employees holding this position have the responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others. This position is subject to random drug testing.
