- This role supports on-farm maintenance techs by assisting and training with facility and equipment repairs and by managing contract crews under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Responsible for supporting and assisting with minor maintenance while executing major repairs of swine facilities and equipment for Iowa Select Farms.
- Adhere to ISF animal wellbeing policy and report any violations to management.
- Adhere to ISF safety policies and procedures; wear PPE and work safely.
- Use the ISF Tools work ticket system to track repairs and materials.
- Demonstrate general trade knowledge (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, welding).
- Prioritize maintenance and repair items, with immediate focus on animal welfare items (feed, water, air/ventilation, containment).
- Be available to work on weekends for emergency maintenance needs.
- Provide guidance and hands-on assistance with curtain systems, penning, feedlines, ventilation, waterlines, and other core barn systems.
- Train farm maintenance staff on repair techniques, safety, and preventative maintenance.
- Respond to emergencies across multiple farms to restore critical systems (feed, water, ventilation, power) quickly.
- Coordinate and support larger repair needs (roofing, siding, ceiling materials, electrical, HVAC).
- Oversee and direct contract crews performing major repair or installation projects.
- Provide backup for on-farm maintenance teams during high-demand periods.
- Support seasonal needs including snow removal, mowing, weed control, and site upkeep as required.
- Ensure all work aligns with Iowa Select Farms’ standards for animal well-being, facility safety, and operational efficiency.
- Adhere to ISF bio-security policy and report any concerns to management.
- Comply with ISF safety policies and procedures, including ongoing safety education.
- Follow ISF animal wellbeing policy and coordinate with the Production Well-being team if incidents occur.

- Position is performed both indoors and outdoors.
- Some tasks may be performed in extreme weather conditions.
- Work across multiple facilities; comfortable in various facility environments.
- Noise can be loud; exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving parts, and vibrations.
- Potential exposure to gases and dust, especially in winter months.
- Direct contact with animals; bio-security practices must be understood and followed.
- Stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle objects, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear.
- Reading and writing ability.
- Lift up to 75 pounds; climb ladders and gates as needed.
- Continuous movement as required to perform tasks.
- Ability to work with limited supervision; demonstrate initiative, organization, dependability, and self-motivation.
- Mechanically minded; ability to troubleshoot a wide range of mechanical issues.
- Team-oriented with good communication skills.
- Basic computer and smartphone skills.
- Full-time, typically at least 40 hours per week.
- Additional availability may be needed during staffing challenges.
- Weekend and holiday on-call rotations required.
- Previous maintenance experience is preferred but not required.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
