Description
Terms of Employment: 10-month per Contract of Employment; 32 hours per week – Mon - Thurs.
Salary:
The compensation for this position is in alignment with the BANV Governing Board approved Salary Schedule;
Salary Schedule based on years’ experience and degree held. Compensation for all positions are determined by the Governing Board and Administration of Beacon Academy. Consideration is given for experience and specialized skills in determining salary.
Salary Range: $15.00 - $37.00.
Classification:
Hourly Non-exempt.
- Performs regularly scheduled non-classroom supervision duties and remains mobile and visible by patrolling school hallways, restrooms, parking lot, and other campus locations in order to observe student behavior to mitigate and prevent unsafe activities, school rule violations, which may include physical interventions (e.g. jogging/running after student(s) to prevent them from doing harm to themselves and others.)
- Enforces school policies related to students exiting or moving in the building. This may include checking for hall passes, enforcing rules during passing period, and ensuring students are behaving appropriately.
- Examines doors, windows, and gates to ensure security.
- Monitors campus for unauthorized person(s) and/or suspicious activities.
- Maintains alertness for problems likely to disrupt the educational process or to be injurious to persons/property; corrects or reports school rule violations and conditions hazardous to health/safety.
- Approaches individuals entering school grounds, provides assistance, reports presence of unauthorized persons, and/or stops visitors on campus to ensure they have proper authorization.
- Observes and monitors student behavior outside the classroom.
- Checks restrooms frequently.
- Assists in locating missing students.
- Maintains positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, parents/guardians, community members, and law enforcement personnel.
- Notifies administration of bullying incidents, gang activities, threats of harm to students on/near campus, and other issues that require immediate attention.
- Assists in carrying out emergency operations plan (e.g. fire drills, lockdowns, etc.).
- Acts as a member of the Physical Altercation Team (PAT).
- Operates a two-way radio to communicate with school office, Incident Commanders, and other school personnel.
- Diffuses threatening situations/confrontations positively and constructively.
- Administers CPR/AED when necessary.
- Observes, intervenes, and gathers information regarding inappropriate activities.
- Prepares accident/incident report forms, when necessary.
- Operates all functions of various security surveillance cameras.
- Conforms to safety standards, as prescribed.
- Sets up traffic cones, parking lot pick up signs, etc. to ensure the safe drop-off and pick-up of students by enforcing proper traffic flow in school parking.
- Ensures drop-off/pick-up procedures are followed and enforced in the school parking lot.
- Explains school policies to students, staff, and members of the public regarding smoking and other safety issues, seeking voluntary cooperation.
- Checks safety of building, identifies and reports hazards and safety violations as needed.
- Enforces positive activities and safety rules within the school building and school property.
- Reports recurring behavioral problems and safety hazards to school administration or other designated staff.
- Performs other tasks related to the position, as assigned.
- Knowledge of safety rules/procedures to be observed by students and standards of courtesy/behavior expected of students.
- Knowledge of interpersonal skills using tact, patience, flexibility, and customer service orientation.
- Ability to perform building security/lockdown procedures and open/close school facilities.
- Knowledge of adolescent development, behavior, and social influences.
- Knowledge of investigation and property protection methods.
- Knowledge of and ability to use conflict resolution strategies/skills.
- Ability to perform CPR/AED and use Universal Precautions, when necessary.
