Overview
The purpose of this class is to supervise and participate in the preparation and service of food in the County detention facility. The role involves maintaining inventory of foods and supplies, ensuring cleanliness of food service areas and equipment, and performing related duties as assigned. The employee will work under general supervision, developing work methods and sequences.

Essential Job Functions- Assist in maintaining the security and safety of the kitchen and dining areas, inmates and staff through implementation of established policies and procedures.
- Supervise assigned staff, including instructing, assigning, reviewing, and planning work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; selecting new employees; addressing employee issues; recommending and approving discipline; recommending discharge as appropriate.
- Oversee the preparation and serving of food, instructing staff, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, allocating personnel, and offering advice and assistance as needed.
- Schedule civilian workers and inmate workers assigned to the kitchen area.
- Train workers to prepare food and perform other kitchen tasks.
- Oversee the inmate food preparation process.
- Plan nutritious meals for inmates and special diets as required.
- Requisition foods, supplies and equipment, inspect incoming items, stock, inventory, and report discrepancies.
- Assist workers in the preparation and service of meals.
- Oversee and participate in cleaning and sanitizing of kitchen and dining areas and washing utensils and equipment.
- Ensure that all food preparation and storage, equipment maintenance and cleaning activities meet Health Department inspection requirements.
- Secure essential areas such as coolers, freezer, bathrooms, storage room, exit doors, and office.
- Submit incident reports as needed.
- Perform routine clerical work: maintain lists and logs, prepare work records and reports, answer telephone, etc.
- Attend training, seminars, meetings, etc., to maintain job knowledge and skills.
- Perform other related job duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED.
At least one (1) year of experience in food service, preferably at a correctional facility.
