Overview
This position includes assisting with educational programming, leading field trips, developing displays and answering phone calls and greeting visitors at the Prairie Heritage Center.
Employment PeriodFlexible:
May 1, 2026 – August 31, 2026. Normal work hours will be Monday – Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with occasional weekend and evening hours as needed. Report to:
Prairie Heritage Center 4931 Yellow Ave, Peterson, Iowa. Hourly wage: $14.00 - $15.00 (DOE) per hour at 40 hours per week.
This position is under the immediate supervision of the Conservation Board Naturalist. All employees of the Conservation Board are under the general supervision of the Conservation Board members.
Duties and Responsibilities- Assist with educational programming
- Assist with development of educational programming
- Lead field trips and outdoor activities
- Participate in parades and other community events
- Answer phone calls, responding to questions about cabins, camping and general regulations
- Greet visitors at the Prairie Heritage Center
- General maintenance tasks as assigned
- Other duties as assigned by the Conservation Board Director and Naturalist
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must have a valid Iowa driver’s license
- Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug test
Ability to routinely stand, sit, walk, operate hand tools and some machinery, kneel, stoop, balance, and climb; ability to routinely lift 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
