The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long term care. Provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned resident under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Knowledge of and delivers age‑appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per care plan. The NA is required to follow infection prevention and control policies and Personal Protective Equipment use.
Key Responsibilities- Assist residents with daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, and obtaining and recording vital signs.
- Provide psychosocial support and other personal care to assigned resident.
- Assist residents in transferring, repositioning and walking using correct transfer techniques and equipment; provide range of motion and passive exercises.
- Complete tasks related to food preparation and dining while creating a positive dining experience; assist residents with meals and snacks; provide water and supplements.
- Assist nursing staff with procedures and document resident interactions, behavior, activity, and dietary outcomes.
- Communicate resident’s changing condition and care concerns to the charge nurse.
- Collect non‑invasive body fluid specimens and gather vital signs.
- Provide housekeeping and laundry support and maintain residents’ living areas.
- Assist with wellness and recreational programs and encourage resident participation.
- Participate in departmental or organization committees and task forces as needed.
- High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred (not required).
- Minimum age of 16.
- Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing or state certified CNA by four months into the position (enrolled in training or process of obtaining).
- Completion of yearly department‑specific competency testing and maintenance of continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually).
- Compliance with required certifications and, where applicable, registration with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
- May require a valid driver’s license and medical qualification for Sanford Category II Driver roles if applicable.
