The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents in long term care under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. Demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the resident in the relevant clinical setting. Performs testing to evaluate data reflective of the resident s status and provides care as needed. Recognizes problems, recommends solutions, and responds effectively to assist in emergent situations.
Ensures the health, comfort and safety of residents. Contributes to the assessment of residents and administers medications or treatments as ordered. Documents resident interactions, outcomes related to care, medication, behavior, activity, and dietary. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with residents, health care providers, and the public. Works as a member of an interdisciplinary care team and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
Counsels residents, family members and/or resident advocates on prevention and treatment plans under the direction of a RN or physician. Develops self-care and education plans as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). An associate degree in practical nursing is preferred. If IV therapy/management is required (North Dakota): graduation from a Board-approved AASPN program with IV included or completion of an IV Therapy course approved by the ND Board of Nursing. Must have completed a pre-licensure nursing program with clinical experience across the lifespan or a minimum of 400 hours as an LPN at another facility.
Current unencumbered LPN license and/or multi-state licensure privileges. Maintains required department competencies and certifications. Completes annual continuing education units (CEU) and competency training as required.
