Job Description

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Civil Commitment Unit for Sex Offenders (CCUSO) is seeking a Part-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team. This is a part-time position with opportunities for advancement, growth, and development.

The LPN provides general nursing care to a specific high-risk population. Responsibilities include direct acute and chronic nursing care, health promotion, disease prevention, health education strategies across the lifespan, treatment of patients through therapeutic activities, providing psychological support and direction, escorting patients, and accurate documentation of patient behaviors and attitudes.

Shift schedule: either 4 shift (1:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m.) or 5 shift (2:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m.) every two weeks with a rotating schedule that includes working every third weekend. The LPN may also be required to work outside of these hours.

CCUSO provides a secure, long-term, and highly structured setting to treat sexual offenders who have served their prison terms and, in a separate civil trial, have been found likely to reoffend. The facility offers state‑of‑the‑art treatment to lower the risk of re‑offending and release patients from confinement as quickly as possible. Services include diagnostics, treatment, and rehabilitative services focused on addressing the conditions impacting a patient’s likelihood of re‑offending.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
  • Licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the Iowa Board of Nursing or licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact Administrator’s Agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
