The HACAP Food Reservoir is seeking a Community Engagement Intern who’s passionate about strengthening communities and supporting neighbors across Eastern Iowa in the fight against hunger. As a summer intern, you’ll collaborate with our Development Manager to lead a community wide food and fund drive, helping mobilize supporters and amplify our mission. You’ll also play a key role in coordinating farmer’s market outreach, engaging volunteers, and supporting local food rescue efforts all while building hands on experience in marketing, event planning, and community engagement.

Monday - Friday from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. $20.00 per hour.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Initiate, build, and maintain relationships with business and community organizations to participate in a community food and fund drive.
- Provide ongoing communication with participating organizations.
- Track donations during community food and fund drive in June – August.
- Facilitate the collection of food donations from participating organizations.
- Create a recognition follow-up at the conclusion of the food and fund drives to celebrate the participants.
- Work with Development Manager to create and distribute marketing materials for community food drive.
- Lead volunteers in collecting donations through Home Run for Hunger at local farmers’ markets.
- Assist in volunteer recruitment for picking projects at local farms.
- Attend community events hosting community food and fund drives.
- Travel within the seven-county service area is required.
- Excellent communications, interpersonal and customer service skills; comfortable with public speaking.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Self-starter, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel and Word.
- Knowledge of Canva.
- Ability to attend work functions outside of normal work hours, weekends, and evenings, as needed.
- Must be able to clearly articulate our mission.
Education and/or Experience
- High School Diploma
- Entering junior or senior year in secondary education where an internship is appropriate
- Some experience in marketing and/or communications
- Valid Driver's License
- Valid Car Insurance
- Reliable transportation for use on the job
