Scheduling and Purchasing Manager
Michael Foods, Inc. invites you to apply for the Scheduling and Purchasing Manager role. This position reports to the Plant Operations Manager and plays a critical role in ensuring timely supply of materials and efficient production scheduling.
Location DescriptionMichael Foods is located in Lenox, Iowa, a small town that offers a strong community atmosphere and easy access to major cities like Des Moines, Omaha, and Kansas City. The facility specializes in pre‑cooked egg patties and is part of a progressive, family‑friendly environment.
Responsibilities- Implement procurement strategy for bill of material items.
- Implement an inventory strategy that supports MFI goals, minimizing carrying costs while maintaining production service levels.
- Develop and execute production scheduling processes, including weekly production plans aligned with product orders and ship dates.
- Ensure inventory accuracy through a cycle‑count program and adjustment of SAP shrink assumptions.
- Oversee planning and receiving personnel, managing performance and providing coaching, direction, and development opportunities.
- Maximize purchasing system use to integrate financial systems and develop purchasing history.
- Provide guidelines for purchasing all items in Lenox with support from MFI Purchasing.
- Establish proper controls and streamline processes wherever possible.
- Utilize system tools to maximize departmental efficiency.
- Develop and implement key metrics for the purchasing/planning function.
- Coordinate scheduling needs with procurement to ensure activities are synchronized and costs are contained.
- Communicate cross‑functionally to deliver the production schedule.
- Streamline ongoing communication across functional areas.
- Facilitate teams, training, and functional interaction meetings for direction, decision making, and consensus building.
- Participate in production meetings and advise management on work‑in‑progress status, material availability, and potential production problems.
- Coordinate with Demand and Supply Planning, Customer Service, Marketing, Production, Quality Control, Engineering, and Sales to resolve schedule interruptions.
- Lead plant and company teams, actively participating in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure a safe and healthy workplace; adhere to all safety policies and incorporate safety and health in all tasks.
- Maintain quality work practices, follow GMPs, keep sanitary conditions, and ensure product quality.
- Report any conditions that could negatively impact food safety and quality to management.
- Be responsible for food safety and quality of MFI products.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
- 5+ years of experience in production and supervision.
- Supervise personnel in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles preferred.
- Demonstrated strong communication and organizational methods.
The pay range for this position is $89,207 – $139,163 per year.
