Farm Manager / Beef Cattle Herdsman – responsible for the daily management of a 500-head feedlot operation at Jason Scott Farms in Pocahontas, Iowa. Also assists with other needs related to the farm and beef operations.
Responsibilities- Daily management of feedlot operation
- Feeding – routine daily feeding, supplements, rations
- Health – routine herd health procedures such as vaccinations, deworming, fly control, and proper identification. Identify/diagnose health programs and administer proper care or work with veterinarian.
- Data collection and accurate record-keeping: weights, measurements, health records
- Feedlot facility upkeep: pressure washing, manure removal, mowing, maintains fencing and paneling, general farm maintenance tasks to ensure a presentable cattle operation
- Assist with sales and customer interaction: prepare cattle for sale, assist with delivery of cattle to feedlot, assist transportation of cattle for sale, maintain positive relationships with feedlot customers and buyers
- Assist with the production of hay and row crop operation
- Support the overall farm's mission of continually improving the cattle feedlot operation with highest-quality health, feed, operational and marketing management
- Maintain a quality reputation of Jason Scott Farms
- BS degree in Animal Science (or related field) is preferred, however, a high school diploma with combined 3-5 years of cattle operation and/or management considered.
- Basic cattle management skills such as nutrition, herd health and performance evaluation
- Valid driver's license and CDL strongly preferred
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds regularly
- Good communications skills – verbally, written and digitally
- Basic equipment skills, such as tractors, skid loaders, ATVs
- Availability to work necessary off‑hours, evenings or weekends as needed for the highest care and management of the cattle operation
- Annual salary of $40,000 dependent on previous experience
- 2 weeks of annual vacation and 5 sick days
- Available housing of 3‑bedroom updated acreage with outbuildings less than one mile away from cattle feedlot
