Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. Kinross began operating the mine in 2003, and it has since become a continuous improvement leader in the Company’s portfolio. Round Mountain poured its 15 millionth ounce in 2018.
Round Mountain and the nearby Bald Mountain mine make up Kinross’ Nevada operations.
The Round Mountain mine is an important contributor to the Nye County economy and, working with local stakeholders, has helped achieve significant improvements in healthcare and education in the area.
Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Maintenance Superintendent, the General Supervisor coordinates/leads the efforts of a maintenance team to deliver scheduled and unscheduled maintenance services to ensure compliance with safety, health, environmental, costs, policies/procedures, and production targets.
Essential Functions Safety and Compliance- Safe and healthy working environment with a high standard of housekeeping.
- Focus on “visible felt leadership” by interacting with maintenance personnel in the field.
- Enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and training sessions for the team.
- Perform safety audits and inspections, addressing any issues promptly.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant governmental and industry regulations.
- Participate in incident investigations and contribute to safety improvements.
- Actively engage in recruiting and developing a diverse team of technicians.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop the Process and Electrical Maintenance team.
- Organize work plans, prioritize, and administer processes and procedures to ensure efficient use of time and resources.
- Promote a high-performance culture by setting expectations, conducting performance reviews, and providing feedback and coaching.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Oversee daily maintenance operations for Process equipment (crushers, conveyors, pumps, etc.) and electrical systems (power distribution, motor controls, etc.).
- Ensure the timely and efficient completion of preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize downtime and maximize equipment availability.
- Monitor and analyze maintenance KPIs (key performance indicators) such as equipment availability, mean time between failures, and repair turnaround time.
- Meet budgeted process area availability/utilization.
- Meet the cost control/budget targets for areas of responsibility.
- Assist in creation of LOM availabilities; creation of schedules for future outages ensuring appropriate detail.
- Assist in creation of LOM budgets; ensuring accuracy within XERAS budgeting models.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment failures, providing technical guidance to the maintenance team.
- Implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) practices and recommend equipment upgrades and modifications.
- Ensure that the team is properly trained in the latest techniques, tools, and safety standards.
- Collaborate with the Mine Operations, Processing, and Engineering teams to align maintenance activities with overall production schedules.
- Work with the Planning department to develop and implement long-term maintenance plans, schedules, and shutdowns.
- Assist in budgeting for maintenance operations and manage expenditures within approved limits.
- Coordinate with procurement for timely sourcing of spare parts, tools, and consumables.
- Manage relationships with external contractors, ensuring quality work and adherence to schedules.
- Education:
Relevant trade certification (Electrician, Millwright, etc.);
Diploma or degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related field desirable;
Must understand NFPA 70E Standard. - Strong understanding of CIC, VCIC, Kilns, Scrubbers, Pressure Strip, pumps, leaching & other systems related to gold recovery.
