Purchasing Supervisor
Job SummaryAs a working supervisor, you will support a thriving aftermarket business in the agriculture and biomass industries. The role provides material planning and purchasing functions for an OEM of heavy industrial process machinery, sourcing machined parts, fabricated components, motors, drive components, bearings, sensors, fasteners, seals, lubrication systems, and more from outside and inter‑company suppliers worldwide. You will lead the Harlan and Blenheim purchasing teams, coordinate with other plants, and partner with the CPM Global Corporate Supply Chain team to develop new suppliers and leverage CPM’s worldwide production footprint.
Up to 25% travel will be required to suppliers and other CPM facilities.
- Support operations in filling day‑to‑day needs for the organization
- Source, select, and develop the supply base and on‑time delivery of the supplier base
- Determine domestic versus foreign sourcing strategy (landed costs, exchange rates, etc.)
- Develop and maintain cost estimates, forecasts, and cost models
- Ensure understanding of TCO (total cost of ownership) on all purchases to increase best cost position
- Identify need for low‑cost capacity of parts for projects and short‑lead‑time supply chains that enable aftermarket growth
- Build cost models to aid in forecasting and understanding of part and material costs
- Define strategy for inventory planning and control (set safety stock levels, lot quantities, etc.)
- Design and optimize the MRP process for optimal inventory and service levels
- Create department metrics to measure performance including purchase‑price variance
- Organize processes, procedures, and working methods within the department to achieve objectives and planning
- Manage supplier performance and hold them accountable to pricing and on‑time delivery
- Work with manufacturing and quality teams to qualify new suppliers
- Assist with the resolution of technical, quality, and receiving issues with suppliers and CPM resources
- Communicate effectively with manufacturing and engineering to ensure product quality
- Clearly communicate to senior leaders, vendors, and customers
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to improve business processes including BOMs, drawing revisions, and related documentation to suppliers
- Coordinate the different businesses to manage supplier relationships as One CPM
- Create and issue purchase orders
- Perform other duties as required and assigned by Plant Manager
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business or related field
- 3+ years of progressive leadership roles within sourcing, supply chain, operations, or project management
- Demonstrated experience in leading and collaborating with cross‑functional teams, creating value for end customers, and driving operational excellence
- Strong financial acumen – ability to utilize fundamental concepts of finance to manage budgets, forecast costs, and provide data‑driven decision information
- Creative thinking ability and originality in solving problems
- Communication skills – clear oral and written communication, and presentation of technical information
- Customer service skills – customer‑focused mindset and actions
- Detail‑orientation – capability to incorporate every detail in holistic solutions
