Position SummaryWorking in a Long‑Term Care setting, the Environmental Aide is responsible for maintaining resident rooms and facility areas in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. Under the direction of the Chief Aging Services Officer
, this role helps ensure resident comfort, health, and safety through routine and specialized cleaning tasks. The position also provides support to CNA and RN staff as needed
, helping enhance resident care and daily operations.
Environmental Services Duties
- Dry mop, wet mop, and vacuum resident rooms and common areas
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, fixtures, and high‑touch surfaces
- Wash windows, clean walls, ceilings, vents, and other assigned surfaces
- Collect and transport refuse and recyclables
- Prepare and clean resident rooms prior to new admissions or following discharges
- Replace supplies (soap, paper towels, toilet tissue, etc.)
- Maintain high sanitation standards aligned with infection control requirements
- Assist with linen distribution and change cubicle curtains or drapes as needed
- Report maintenance or repair needs promptly
- Follow all safety protocols, universal precautions, and PPE requirements
- Operate housekeeping equipment (training provided if needed)
- Follow established cleaning schedules and instructions independently
(Non‑clinical duties; no direct clinical care required)
- Assist CNAs and RNs by:
- Helping transport or escort residents to dining, activities, or appointments
- Delivering linens, supplies, or equipment to resident care areas
- Responding to non‑clinical requests that enhance resident comfort (adjusting room items, tidying spaces, locating equipment, etc.)
- Assisting with room setup for care activities
- Communicate observations of environmental or resident-related safety concerns to nursing staff
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED (unless currently a high school student)
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends or holidays as needed
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Basic computer skills
- Physical ability to perform frequent walking, bending, lifting, and equipment use
- Previous experience in environmental services, housekeeping, or long‑term care
- Familiarity with infection control practices
- Comfort working around residents of varying care levels
