The Sterile Processing Technician plays a vital role in ensuring safe, efficient patient care by preparing, sterilizing, and maintaining surgical instruments and equipment. This role supports clinical teams by maintaining high standards of cleanliness, organization, and infection prevention while collaborating closely with staff across departments.

Responsibilities- Assemble, clean, decontaminate, and sterilize surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies according to established protocols and manufacturer guidelines.
- Prepare and maintain instrument trays and procedural supplies to support safe and efficient patient care.
- Operate and monitor sterilization equipment (including steam and low-temperature systems) with accurate documentation and quality checks.
- Reprocess endoscopes and maintain associated equipment in compliance with infection prevention standards.
- Inspect instruments for functionality and remove damaged items from service for repair or replacement.
- Apply aseptic technique and infection control principles in all daily work activities.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas to ensure proper storage and handling of sterile supplies.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with clinical staff and department partners.
- Demonstrate knowledge of surgical instruments, medical terminology, and departmental procedures.
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must possess and maintain current BLS and Dependent Adult and Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter certification as outlined per policy.
- Must read, write, speak, and comprehend English fluently to read manufacturer’s instructions, sterilization records and all other documentation pertinent to Sterile Processing Department (SPD).
Preferred:
- Recent experience working with Sterile Processing and Surgery.
