SummaryThis position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by providing excellent customer service and enabling the facilitation of positive patient outcomes by scheduling referral appointments and obtaining prior authorizations as needed for patients. This position will serve as a representative for the clinic and hospital to each patient they serve.
Job Description- Job Duties
- Schedule referral appointments for patients at the provider's direction.
- Provide education and referral options to patient, placing an emphasis on services offered at Mercy Medical Center.
- Serve as the clinic representative to the healthcare community by providing patients with accurate and timely information.
- Prioritize the daily scheduling according to date, time, urgency and referral type (radiology, cardiology, orthopedics, etc.).
- Work task list or referral work queue in electronic health record.
- Communicate the date, time, location and any preparation instructions for the scheduled appointment to the patient by phone or in-person.
- Record the referral appointment in the Patient Service Liaison log for tracking purposes.
- E-file or fax the patient order to the hospital or clinic prior to the referral appointment.
- Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.
Specific Duties
- Utilizes bilingual speaking proficiency in Spanish/English as needed.
- Interpret patient exams and results.
- Provide patient education, including those with language barriers.
- Scan medical information to providers via Epic and oral communications.
- Prepare legal letters for patients.
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, computer skills, organization, time management, attention to detail and the ability to remain poised and efficient in a fast-paced environment.
- Two years of customer service experience in a medical setting and experience with insurance, coding and medical terminology/abbreviations preferred.
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Qualified Bilingual certification of General Professional Proficiency with Propio required.
