Position Overview

Van Buren County Hospital is seeking a highly motivated and detail oriented Housekeeper / Support Services to join our team. This individual is continuously responsible for daily cleaning of the hospital facilities, cleaning duties specific to assigned areas along with working outside the areas as needed. This person will work closely with the Support Services Tech / EVS Lead to ensure the EVS department is maintaining all VBCH facilities to a high quality cleanliness standard.

The Housekeeper / Support Services title will be trained in Food and Nutrition Services and Material Management Departments so they can assist as needed. In conjunction with the Optimization / Support Services manager, they will look for opportunities for optimization across the support services departments. They are expected to model the values of One Culture at all times.

Position Essential Functions
  • Be able to organize work efficiently and to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Possess good communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Perform functions which require knowledge of mixing vinyl floor, carpet and patient room cleaning chemicals disinfectants, according to manufacturer’s specifications. Maintain environment that is clean and orderly.
  • Observe and report to supervisor any safety concerns to visitors, patients, and employees. Report defective equipment promptly.
  • Will be asked to assist with patients in the event of a fire or natural disaster. Knowledge of fire and disaster plan is required. Understand role as assigned.
  • May be asked to assist with work assignments and notify supervisor when assignments cannot be completed on time.
  • Will be required to clean floors, equipment desks, chairs, furniture, walls, beds, carpet, computers, stands, curtains, carts, doors, or any item consistent with hospital housekeeping duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Be familiar with current department policies and/or procedures and make recommendations to improve upon existing quality standards.
  • Work with Management to ensure that all procedures within the organization conform to health and safety regulations, financial policies and legislation such as equal opportunity.
  • Work with management to determine and document any areas that may need improvement.
  • Must be able to safely work in an environment where latex is prevalent.
  • Complete annual education requirements.
  • Attend meetings as appropriate.
  • Maintain regulatory requirements.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry matters by reading/attending educational presentations.
  • Rotating Holidays between the 2 daytime employees will be mandatory. The staff will have weekends scheduled off. If there is a call in by the weekend crew, it will then be covered by M-F staff. The Supervisor will first ask for volunteers on holidays and weekend. If there are none, we will work off the rotation list.

  • Maintain patient, hospital and, employee confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Meet with supervisor concerning policies and procedures, work assignments, financials and other functional problems. Keep supervisor informed of department activities and needs.
  • Comply with all established policies and procedures of the hospital and of the department, including the Code of Conduct and the Code of Ethics and Compliance.
  • Attend meetings as appropriate.
  • Meet standards of hospital infection control.
  • Maintain all applicable regulatory requirements, including licensure requirements when applicable.
  • Commit to being diligent about safety policies and practices within the organization and assigned department.
  • Accept additional duties as assigned when they are deemed appropriate by the employee’s supervision.
Education, Certification, and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Experience in institutional cleaning is preferred.
