Description
Summary:
The Sustaining Design Engineer designs, documents, and supports components and assemblies used in Stellar Industries products. The Design Engineer focuses on cost, material availability, manufacturability, and ergonomics when maintaining released product designs. The engineer is responsible for executing design efforts related to continuous product improvement, engineered to order product, and customer support for any part numbers produced by their facility.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Perform design calculations and prepare equipment and/or material specifications.
- Produce designs in 3D CAD and draft those designs in 2D for manufacturing use.
- Coordinate work with other Engineers or Engineering Technicians.
- Compile data and prepare reports related to research and testing of existing products as required.
- Provide design support for Manufacturing.
- Identify, quantify, and implement continuous product improvement designs related to production efficiency, ergonomics, etc.
- Design, draft, and provide support for engineered to order product.
- Fulfill customer service requests, including warranty inspection, field unit troubleshooting, etc.
- Perform other miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required.
- Follow all safety rules as laid out in the company employee handbook and other supplemental safety training. Continuously promote a culture of working safety.
- General knowledge of Microsoft 365 products with proficiency in Word and Excel.
- Capable of reading and accurately interpreting engineering drawings and other technical documents.
- Familiar with structural welding and weld symbols.
- Knowledge of ASME GD&T standards and their application.
- Ability to effectively communicate through written and oral means.
- Analytical skills and ability to troubleshoot and solve complex problems.
- Working knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems associated with the automotive and work truck industry preferred.
- Ability to measure physical components accurately using machine tools.
- Familiarity with FEA software and interpretation of simulation results.
- Strong applied mathematics skills, including physics, trigonometry, and statistics.
- Working knowledge of 2D and 3D design software required. AutoCAD and Solid Works preferred.
- Knowledge of ERP software and associated systems preferred.
- Be willing to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- One to Three years of experience in the design or manufacturing of mechanical and hydraulic systems.
- Regular standing, walking, and use of hands to feel or handle objects, tools, and controls.
- Frequent verbal communication required.
- Ability to lift and manipulate up to 40lbs.
- Will be required to work indoors in a shop environment and potentially outside in variable weather conditions.
- Company sponsored continuing education and training.
- Some overnight travel may be required.
- Valid driver's license.
