Overview
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Staff Manufacturing Engineer to develop and engineer new processes and high-volume automation equipment with the Stator team in Reno, NV. These production lines include highly automated manufacturing systems to wind, test, and assemble stators into completed housing assemblies. The Staff Manufacturing Engineer works closely with Tesla's internal Product Design, Supplier Industrialization, Operations, and Quality Engineering teams and coordinates cross-functional design activities with equipment suppliers to develop new Drive Unit manufacturing equipment.
The Staff Manufacturing Engineer assumes full ownership of the design and technical transfer of the line's tools to Tesla Operations, qualifying them for use with the highest standards of safety, quality, and output.
- Develop new highly automated manufacturing lines from concept to production
- Optimize product flow and line efficiency while reducing Capex and lead-time
- Generate machine specifications, documentation and manufacturing instructions
- Generate process flow, failure mode effects analysis, and inspection methodology for new products
- Identify and drive continuous improvement and cost reduction programs
- Collaborate with the Stator Engineering Design team to propose solutions for Tesla's future products
- Drive excellence in project execution by defining, managing, and executing project timelines to ensure on-time delivery through proactive program management
- Experience improving production processes using data analysis software (e.g., Minitab, JMP)
- Experience generating process and product quality documentation
- Experience managing and mentoring small teams of engineers
- Strong hands-on experience with high-volume and pilot manufacturing
- Proven track record of data driven methodology to solve complex problems
- 7+ years of relevant experience
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent experience
