What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Manufacturing Equipment Engineer to contribute to the development and improvement of existing and new high-volume automation equipment for LFP cell assembly lines. As part of the production engineering team, you will be responsible for operating, sustaining, and improving some of the most advanced automated manufacturing equipment in the world. The ideal candidate will have a high aptitude for quickly learning new skillsets, along with the ability to lead in high-demanding situations.
We expect engineers to start with strengths in a given field (e.g., 3D/2D drawing, mechanical/electrical engineering, robotics, PLC programming, vision systems, Python, HMI scripting, etc.) and then expand their expertise into all other areas by collaborating with team members. This role requires broad capabilities to sustain every aspect of the automated equipment.
- Interpret, improve, and deploy 2D/3D drawings for mechanical/pneumatic components and electrical circuits using Solid Works and Eplan
- Program ladder logic and structured text on multiple controller platforms (Omron, Siemens). Program and teach industrial 6/3-axis robots (Kuka/Fanuc/Epson/Omron), multi-station machinery material pick-and-place, dispense, fastening, vision systems, welding, and conveyance applications
- Diagnose equipment failures improving OEE. Lead equipment upgrades with a focus on serviceability, reliability and process capability. Participate and lead corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and RCA engineering analysis
- Takes initiative to create, implement and improve preventative maintenance procedures and schedules. Sustain competitive uptime, MTTR & MTBF targets for area of ownership
- Participate in spare part analysis, localization, cost reduction and inventory improvements by collaborating with Spares Department
- Collaborate with EHS in the identification, prevention, and mitigation of safety hazards, proposing and implementing engineering solutions
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams in the development of process flows, control plan, GR&R, work instructions, process capability, rework procedures, calibration and qualification of tools, quality validation, risk assessments (PFMEA) & new product introduction
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams in the commissioning, start of production and ramp up of high‑volume LFP manufacturing operations. Sustain 24×7 production operations to meet build plan targets, demonstrating competitive OEE
