Position Summary

The controls engineer will lead and implement controls projects across Zinpro's Shell Rock manufacturing plant. The role will include systems design support for new production areas, integration of upgraded equipment in existing systems, and projects targeting obsolete equipment. The controls engineer will work closely with plant leaders and assist in troubleshooting issues with existing systems when needed. This hybrid role requires on-site presence at the plant one week each month.

Functions
  • Creating and interpreting wiring diagrams used in an Industrial Automation and Control System (IACS).
  • Wiring and troubleshooting electrical systems containing fuses, push buttons, selector switches, relays, and other components.
  • Programming and operating small- and medium-scope Programmable Logic Controllers, and supporting projects associated with those controllers.
  • Troubleshooting Programmable Logic Controller projects.
  • Designing, programming, and troubleshooting plant floor and distributed Human Machine Interfaces (HMI).
  • Tracing operational data from plant floor electro‑mechanical devices to the controller, HMI, and reporting tools within an IACS.
  • Developing controls elements to assist in the preventative maintenance of plant floor equipment.
  • Starting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting low voltage variable frequency drives, with power ranging from 1 HP to 500+ HP.
  • Troubleshooting layer 2 and layer 3 switches and routers within an industrial networking environment, in the support of Ethernet, as well as proprietary industrial networks.
  • Working closely with instrumentation suppliers and plant maintenance to continually improve process controls.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field (or 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing setting).
  • Knowledge of electrical safety principles and best practices.
  • Familiarity with the programming of Rockwell PLCs and HMIs.
  • Experience with electrical schematics and one‑line diagrams.
  • Experience troubleshooting issues with operating systems in the field.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects independently.
  • Past work using data analysis and the development of control systems.
Travel Requirements

This is a hybrid position located in Shell Rock, IA and requires attendance at the plant one week per month. The position will engage in occasional company‑sponsored travel.
