Job DescriptionLisbon Community School District is seeking a dedicated and student-centered educator to serve as a Junior High English Language Arts Teacher for grades 7 and 8 at Lisbon Secondary School. The successful candidate will create engaging learning experiences that help students develop strong reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills aligned to the Iowa Core ELA Standards.
Position OverviewThis position will teach English Language Arts courses for 7th and 8th grade students within our secondary program. Lisbon operates as a K–12 building, with grades 7–12 considered part of the secondary division. The ideal candidate will be passionate about helping students grow as readers, writers, and communicators while building strong relationships that support student success.
Responsibilities- Plan and deliver instruction aligned with the Iowa Core English Language Arts Standards
- Develop engaging lessons that promote literacy, writing, critical thinking, and communication skills
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to support diverse learners
- Assess student progress and use data to inform instruction
- Collaborate with colleagues through the district’s Professional Learning Community (PLC) process
- Maintain effective communication with students, families, and staff
- Create a positive and supportive classroom environment
- Integrate technology and real-world connections into instruction
- Support the district’s Portrait of a Graduate competencies
- Valid Iowa teaching license with appropriate endorsement (5–12 English/Language Arts or Middle School Language Arts preferred)
- Knowledge of Iowa Core ELA Standards
- Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills
- Commitment to collaboration and continuous improvement
