POSITION OVERVIEW

1.0 FTE combined position serving as a Certified School Counselor and Health/Physical Education Teacher for grades 7-9. East Marshall CSD is seeking a compassionate and energetic professional who can effectively serve students both in counseling and in the classroom.

REQUIRED CREDENTIALS

• Valid Iowa Teaching License
• Iowa School Counselor Certification (K-12 or applicable grade band) — Required
• Health and/or Physical Education Endorsement — Required
• CPR/First Aid Certification — Required (or willingness to obtain)
• Degree(s) required in area of major subject
• Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) credentials

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience in a school counseling role at the middle or secondary level — preferred
• Experience teaching Health and/or Physical Education — preferred
• Familiarity with the ASCA National Model for school counseling programs — preferred
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with adolescent students
• Experience with crisis intervention, social-emotional learning, and college/career readiness

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

• Provide individual, group counseling services, and 5 year planning (ICAP) to 7th-9th grade students
• Deliver classroom guidance curriculum aligned with social-emotional learning standards
• Support academic advising, scheduling, and post-secondary planning for grades 7-9
• Plan and deliver Health and Physical Education instruction as assigned
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families on student needs and interventions
• Maintain required counseling documentation and fulfill state reporting obligations
• Participate in IEP, 504, and student support team meetings as appropriate
• Collaborate with district counseling staff for program development, standards alignment, and DCAP planning
• Other duties as assigned
