educational technology specialist (ets)
summary description
under supervision, assists staff in a variety of instructional activities, basic level technical issues, school technology inventory, and in the supervision of students in the computer lab. Incumbent performs related work as required.
exemplary duties/responsibilities
- assists staff and students in technology related issues and activities, including installing software/updates, imaging computers, performing password resets, facilitating school it work orders; assists in presenting new software to students and staff using teaching methods; assists students individually or in groups with lesson assignments and projects; reinforces learning concepts; confers with classroom teacher on student progress; organizes software per teacher's needs;
provides basic technical support for computers, printers, interactive whiteboards, etc.; supports teachers with district‑approved curriculum software and productivity software; reports and submits work orders for inoperative equipment; prints students' writing and art; customizes media to meet teacher's needs; distributes and collects classroom materials and prepares computer lab; orders supplies and equipment; maintains student and attendance records; maintains lab bulletin boards;
observes progress and identifies problem areas for referral; assists in maintaining student safety and discipline; enforces school rules and assists in support of district and site computer applications; manages school technology inventory; works with assessment about sbac duties.
employment standards
- education: equivalent to a high school diploma. Some college coursework, workshops, seminars, etc. In computer operations desirable.
- experience: one year in computer support and student instructional activities as part of an organized program, especially with educational software.
- highly qualified (hq) status
: must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, completed at least 48 semester hours at an accredited college or university, or have an associate's degree or higher, or passed the parapro assessment with a score of at least 460. - knowledge of educational principles and techniques; student behavior; discipline techniques; correct english usage; basic math; basic computer concepts; file management; basic security; general computer use; ms office competency desirable.
- skills include assisting in computer instruction; maintaining confidence and cooperation; establishing effective relationships; problem identification and resolution; accurate record keeping; operating instructional software; understanding written instructions.
- licenses/certifications : must possess or receive within two years the equivalent of each aspect of the ets academy certification (file management, media resources, processes and procedures, ets components, ets applications, ms office, interactive whiteboards, ets security). Certification may be received from wcsd.
- physical demands : sedentary work with occasional walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, or driving. No special demands. May move monitors or cpu and perform recess duties.
- work environment : typical office, meeting, training rooms, libraries, commercial vehicles. Safety precautions, avoid trips, falls, fire regulations. Adequate lighting, heating, ventilation.
