Job Description

The Instructional Coach supports continuous improvement in teaching and learning across the district by partnering with all teachers to strengthen instructional practices and improve measurable student achievement outcomes. The coach provides job‑embedded, non‑evaluative instructional support aligned to district curriculum, standards, MTSS frameworks, and evidence‑based practices.

This position does not provide regular direct student intervention services and does not replace administrative responsibilities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Instructional Coaching
    • Implement coaching cycles that include goal setting, observation, modeling, co‑teaching, and reflective feedback.
    • Partner with teachers across all grade levels and content areas.
    • Provide confidential, non‑evaluative coaching focused on instructional growth.
    • Support teachers in developing student goal‑setting and self‑monitoring systems.
    • Strengthen instructional practices that increase student engagement and cognitive rigor.
  • Curriculum & Instructional Support
    • Support high‑fidelity implementation of district‑adopted curriculum.
    • Align instructional practices to district priorities and improvement goals.
    • Model instructional strategies that increase rigor, engagement, and student ownership.
    • Promote consistent instructional expectations across classrooms and grade levels.
  • Instructional Environment & Student Engagement
    • Coach teachers in recognizing behavior as a response to academic or instructional challenges and adjusting instruction accordingly.
    • Coach teachers in implementing proactive classroom management practices within strong Tier 1 instruction, incorporating trauma‑informed and restorative approaches that promote engagement and maximize instructional time.
    • Support teachers in analyzing patterns of student disengagement and implementing instructional adjustments to increase engagement and academic persistence.
    • Support implementation of student goal‑setting and self‑monitoring systems that promote academic ownership and align classroom practices with school‑wide expectations.
  • Data‑Informed Instruction & MTSS Effectiveness
    • Support teachers and teams in analyzing assessment data to strengthen Tier 1 instruction.
    • Guide grade‑level and content teams in setting measurable instructional goals aligned to district priorities.
    • Support instructional adjustments within MTSS frameworks to improve student achievement.
    • Collaborate with teams to monitor progress toward established goals and refine instructional practices.
  • PLC & Collaborative Team Leadership
    • Co‑facilitate PLCs and collaborative team meetings in partnership with building and district leadership.
    • Lead structured instructional cycles focused on student learning outcomes.
    • Design and deliver professional learning aligned to district and building improvement goals.
    • Support implementation of instructional initiatives and district‑adopted curriculum resources.
  • Collaboration & Communication
    • Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, interventionists, administrators, and support personnel.
    • Communicate instructional trends and systemic needs to administrators while maintaining coaching confidentiality.
    • Support building‑level implementation of district instructional initiatives.
  • Student Achievement Outcomes
    • The effectiveness of this position will be measured by:
    • Increased Tier 1 instructional effectiveness
    • Improved student achievement outcomes
    • Strengthened MTSS implementation
    • Improved student engagement and academic ownership
Qualifications
  • Required
    • Valid teaching license
    • Minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching experience
    • Strong knowledge of instructional best practices across grade levels and content areas
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with adult learners
  • Preferred
    • Instructional coaching experience across multiple grade bands
    • Experience or education in curriculum, instruction, and assessment
