Secondary Special Education Teacher

Job Description TEACHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Valid Missouri Special Education Elementary or Secondary Teacher Certification or ability to obtain.
SUPERVISES:
  • Students assigned directly to their caseload
  • Paraprofessionals (if applicable)
  • Other Osage County R‑II students
REPORTS TO:
  • Director of Special Education
Job Performance Duties:
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) based on students' needs.
  • Adapt and modify curriculum to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Use research-based instructional strategies and interventions.
  • Provide direct instruction in individual, small-group, and whole-class settings.
  • Utilize assistive technology and accommodations as necessary.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instruction accordingly.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure inclusion and access to the curriculum.
  • Implement behavior management plans and positive behavior supports.
  • Teach social skills and self-regulation strategies.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress and concerns.
  • Work with counselors, therapists, and other specialists to address student needs.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date IEP documentation.
  • Conduct required evaluations, assessments, and progress reports.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district special education laws and policies.
  • Attend and participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Keep detailed records of student progress, accommodations, and modifications.
  • Work collaboratively with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and administrators.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development related to special education best practices.
  • Advocate for students with disabilities to ensure equitable access to education.
  • Participate in school-wide initiatives and committees.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including parents, staff, and community members.
