Waldorf University seeks a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in English to serve as Director of Composition & First Year Writing, with the primary duty of developing a consistent and tailored first-year composition curriculum. Teaching responsibilities would be in first-year composition courses with the potential of generalist literature courses. We especially welcome candidates with the ability to teach surveys in early and late American Literature or courses in the digital humanities.
This appointment requires teaching a 4/4 load on a 9-month contract. The appointment will begin in early August 2026.
Additional responsibilities include partnering with Waldorf's Academic Achievement Center (AAC) and Writing Center to train and advise student workers for tutoring First-year Composition, mentoring English students beyond the classroom, advising majors, and contributing to the English programs. University and departmental service, as well as continued professional development, are also required.
Candidates should possess the following qualities:
* Ability to develop and execute a first-year writing program tailored to the needs of Waldorf University students.
* Enthusiasm about partnering with Admissions to grow the English and Creative Writing majors.
* Keen interest in being a member of a thriving collegial department.
* Strong commitment to the development and welfare of students both inside and outside of the classroom.
* Evidence of excellence in teaching at the college level.
* Commitment to continued professional development.
* Ability to relate well to students, faculty, and staff.
* Motivation to develop new and existing course offerings in the department.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Ph.D. or ABD in English or a related field required by the time of appointment.
* Teaching experience at the college level.
* A strong record of professional or scholarly publication.
