The Adel DeSoto Minburn Community School District is seeking highly motivated, quality applicants for a full-time school counselor position for the 2026-27 school year.
This position is for the DeSoto Intermediate building, a progressive school serving fifth and sixth grades with a passionate and collaborative staff. DeSoto Intermediate educates approximately 375 students and is located directly west of Waukee on the edge of the Des Moines metropolitan area.
The primary role would be the instruction of guidance lessons with a focus on School Counselor Professional Standards & Competencies. In addition to guidance lessons, the counselor will facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district and state approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment;
and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations and goals.

The ideal candidate would have a passion for working with students and families and would possess a master's in school counseling. Qualifications- Valid Iowa Teaching License
- License Endorsement:
Professional Counselor - Appropriate B.O.E.E licensure
- Belief that each and every learner can achieve at high levels
- Knowledge of current research and evidence-based instructional practices
- Provide guidance lessons within the classrooms
- Meet with students individually or in small groups, as able, regarding a variety of student needs
- Highly collaborative working with general education teachers, interventionists and parents
- Active participation in a professional learning community comprised of counselors at other ADM schools, targeting PreK-12 student goals
- Strong communication skills
- Leadership of our Behavior Intervention Team
- Interest to participate and seek out professional learning opportunities, implement strategies and show a reflective nature to grow professionally
- Effective record keeping and organizational skills
