Elementary Agriculture Specials Teacher

Qualified applicants should possess the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or higher (preferred)
  • Current Iowa Teacher Certificate with appropriate endorsement(s) (required)
  • Successful teaching experience (preferred)

Candidates should demonstrate the following knowledge and skills:

  • Planning, prioritizing, and managing instructional time
  • Knowledge of elementary child development and age‑appropriate instructional practices
  • Designing and delivering hands‑on, project‑based learning experiences
  • Organizational and time‑management abilities
  • Flexibility to meet alternative qualifications as approved by the board
Performance Responsibilities
  • Plan, evaluate, and revise agriculture‑related curricula and instructional methods in alignment with the Iowa Core, district curriculum, and elementary learning standards.
  • Develop and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate agriculture instruction covering plants, animals, food systems, environmental stewardship, and basic agricultural concepts.
  • Employ a variety of instructional strategies including hands‑on activities, demonstrations, outdoor learning, and experiential projects.
  • Integrate agriculture education with science, math, literacy, and social studies when appropriate.
  • Support the selection, care, and management of instructional materials, tools, and supplies.
  • Provide differentiated instruction to meet diverse learner needs.
  • Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports.
  • Promote student engagement, curiosity, and responsible behavior while fostering an appreciation for agriculture and the environment.
  • Supervise students during instructional activities, including classroom, laboratory, outdoor, or garden learning experiences.
  • Follow professional practices consistent with school policies in working with students, records, parents, and/or colleges.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor with parents and students.
  • Assist administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Establish and maintain classroom management procedures to ensure a safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Stay abreast of developments in the field and strive to maintain professional competence.
  • Attend staff meetings, professional development, and serve on committees as required.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and appropriate records and files.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Provide adequate information, plans, and material for substitute teachers.
  • Maintain reliable attendance.
  • Act as an advisor to student organizations.
  • Assume additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent, building principal, or designee.
Physical, Mental, and Environmental Demands
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Capable of standing for long periods while teaching.
  • Work with interruptions during the shift.
  • Involve indoor and outdoor instruction, including school gardens and agricultural learning spaces.
  • Provide certification of good health prior to employment.
Terms of Employment

Salary and work year will be determined in accordance with the Agreement between CCEA and CCSD.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Agreement between CCEA and CCSD.
